Surabaya under Japanese Military Rule (1942–1945)

The long-standing Dutch East Indies government was eventually replaced by Japanese military rule. The Japanese military forces that would later take control of the city of Surabaya originated from the Japanese landing in Tuban. The Japanese forces initially attacked the city of Surabaya through an air strike. This resulted in the Dutch East Indies forces in Surabaya being subjected to a strong attack and fleeing. Some of them were also captured and later became prisoners of the Japanese military government. The loss of Dutch military power made it easier for the Japanese military government to mobilize its forces to take control of the city of Surabaya.
